We stayed here over the Hogmanay festival. It's not hard to get to Edinburgh city centre, as there is a train station 5 minutes drive away, which takes you straight to Waverley in 20 minutes. We did have to drive for Hogmanay ourselves though, as the trains only ran till around 8pm on that night.
The location is remote however, you can explore the picturesque countryside, North Berwick or all the golf courses.
The room was clean, spacious and very easy to warm up. The heated rack in the bathroom also worked well, warming up towels lovely. They don't spare any expense on making their guests comfortable.
Breakfast was also good quality, freshly cooked to our liking. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The review before, complaining about the buffet breakfast, can be easily ignored because we were told to expect this on New Year's day. It is logical that it should be buffet-style then, when not many people even get up at 7am on the 1st January. Saying this, they can extend the breakfast till later, as 9:30am is quite an early cut-off when visitors can order breakfast till 11am.

It was after midnight on Hogmanay when we arrived. The welcome, from both the night porter and barman was wonderful. They couldn’t do enough. Excellent. The next day I ate the worst breakfast and experienced the worst service of any hotel I’ve ever stayed in. To get any table service, I had to approach the staff, since they showed no sign of serving and appeared to think their only role was to clear up and survey the scene. I’m still not sure whether a freshly cooked breakfast was an option… no menus… and some people seemed to be eating differently. Breakfast appeared to be buffet style… cartons of milk … not presented in jugs…in a fridge… I thought Cona coffee disappeared in the ‘90s… dark and stewed……tough thick precooked eggs…tinned mushrooms in a watery pond…white under cooked sausages… tatty scones so overcooked they were like tattie crisps. And is it not possible to obtain a decent loaf of bread and not slices so thin they are almost transparent??!!! I’ve stayed before…the breakfast was notably underwhelming but this time, both service snd good quality was of the standard… indeed below the standard… of a youth hostel. At £144 a night surely we deserved at least mediocre??!!!

We had the most amazing 4 night stay here. Every member of staff that we met was so friendly, helpful and polite. Our room had everything that we needed and was very clean. Breakfast was good but the evening meal that we had was exceptional. We chose to stay here rather than in central Edinburgh and we thought that we made a very good decision. It's a 15 minute drive to the park & ride at Wallyford and £5.10 return on the train which only takes 10 minutes to get to Waverley station. Overall, it was superb value for money - a fraction of what the Edinburgh hotels were charging. We would highly recommend staying here.

I stayed overnight and had a wonderful experience. The welcome at reception was warm, and my room was, clean, and very comfortable, with everything I needed. Dinner was lovely with great service and fair prices, and breakfast had plenty of choice. The hotel’s location is beautiful with stunning views. I’d definitely stay again!

This was a great find for us. When searching for accommodations along Scotland's Golf Coast, we were fortunate to find The Lodge of Cragielaw! While their golf course was not on our itinerary, it will be our next trip. The lodge is beautiful. Location is perfect. The three courses we played were all within short 20 minutes drive. Rooms were new and spacious. Service was exceptional and food was very good. Perhaps the best part of our visit was our interaction with their management staff. Very friendly, professional and very interested in making certain they met our needs. We would certainly recommend.
