Royal Óbidos Scenic Resort

I stayed here hoping for a relaxing break with my partner, but the wellness facilities were completely disappointing. The interior swimming pool water was not hot at all, the Turkish bath wasn’t working, and the sauna temperature was far too low to enjoy. We raised this with reception, and all they offered was a 15% discount voucher for the restaurant, which doesn’t fix broken services that were part of the reason we booked the stay. We booked one month in advance specifically for relaxation, and if key spa facilities weren’t going to be available or functioning properly, we should have been informed ahead of time. Instead, we were left with a cold environment and a wasted chance to unwind. The service and massages were good, but that wasn’t enough when the main amenities advertised were unusable. Very disappointing experience.

The golf course itself was beautiful! Maintained to perfection. Very challenging holes, with several tee box for all skill levels to choose from. We stayed in an apartment with was essentially 2 rooms combined with one with a seating area and dining table the other like a standard hotel room with a kitchenette. The food was ridiculously overpriced! Charging 36€ for 2 shots and 5€for a pop. The food was bland and under cooked.

We stayed 4 nights. The apartment was great and we loved using the wellness centre. Also played a round of Golf which we pre booked and paid for online. This is non refundable as we found out when we discovered if you are a guest at the resort you get a cheaper rate. They didn’t care. Also take tees, €6 for a small packet of wooden tees.. first course I’ve ever been where they are not complimentary in your cart. All that aside, the course was great to play and in good condition.

Top notch hotel but it's in the middle of nowhere. It is awesome if you are a golf player. The food in the restaurant is outstanding. Room service is amazing and the concierge service is also outstanding. Had a great stay at the hotel. A vehicle is a must to visit the surrounding area.

⸻ Pros • Beautiful golf, tennis, paddle and mini-golf facilities (available to rent). • Studio was comfortable and clean. • Housekeeping every 3 days (extra cleaning available with fee). • Nice view from the Clubhouse restaurant where breakfast was served (3–4 min walk, overlooking the golf course). • Indoor and outdoor pool available (inside the main hotel building, needed to drive to the hotel parking). • Great place for relaxation if you come by car (access only possible with car). Cons • Breakfast far below 5-star standard: very limited options, not fresh bread, scrambled/boiled eggs served cold, no omelette option unless extra charge. • Studio had no dining table inside. • Bathroom unsafe: bathtub leaked water on the floor, no handle to hold, very slippery and risky (I even slipped, which was dangerous).
