Meliá Madeira Mare

It’s a good but a bit outdated hotel. Rooms are very specious with the views over the ocean. In this regard they’re super great. Our room had some sewage smell in the morning which was annoying and they couldn’t fix it. I guess it’s not okay if you think about the price they charge. Breakfast is okay but seems to have too little choice for us. Definitely not a 5* breakfast.

The hotel has large rooms with a good sized terrace. There are views of the water from many rooms. There is a very good breakfast with an extensive choice of items. There is a large fitness center which has a lot of equipment. The pool is also large. Many sculptures and other art decorate the hotel. The only complaints are the shower has a partial glass barrier which doesn't contain the water well. The bathroom floor got flooded. Also they are too eager to clear the tables at breakfast. I got a bowl of cereal with nuts, fruit and yogurt. I put it on the table and went to get a cappuccino and when I returned it was gone. The location is far from the main sights located in the Old Town. However it's in the Lido area where most tourists go. Nearby is a nice promenade along the water. There are many restaurants nearby. We particularly liked Restaurant PVP - Pão, Vinho e Petiscos (Bread, Wine & Snacks).

Our stay was great but the hotel is not 5 star place, strong 4, mainly because of food quality and variety, and bathrooms. In my kids room the shower was dirty with broken parts. It should not happen. While brushing my teeth a bit of toothpaste dropped and it stayed "with us" till end of our stays. It shows how the room cleaning works. The place is definitely overpriced

The hotel has good value for money. The staff is nice, and the service is good. Room service is remarkably affordable. The indoor pool is not maintained well, but it is passable. The guests tend to be a little on the older side, and the guests can be annoying at the breakfast buffet. Somehow this hotel does not attract the best of people. The hotel is about an hour’s walk away from the classic city centre, and it’s a nice walk even if it is a bit hilly (like the entire island). The dinner buffet isn’t the best quality. I am glad that we went only once and did not book those in advance. The breakfast buffet is passable, the coffee is mediocre, and there were eggshells in the egg I got once. Overall it’s a good hotel for the price. The availability of parking is good, and it has a nice atmosphere. I would recommend this hotel for a nice deal, but you should avoid the dinner buffet, it is not great value for money.

This hotel was absolutely spectacular. From check in right through my stay, the professionalism of each and every staff member was top quality. The room was very spacious and gleaming throughout my stay. The balcony area had a class view of the sea.The hotel itself exceeded my expectations. The food was superb, breakfast each morning was outstanding. Buffet which catered for everyone's tastebuds. The snack bar by the pool area again food top quality. The restaurant at night was exceptionally tasty. Atmosphere of restaurant again amazing, waiters are very friendly. Room service prompt and friendly. The art decor throughout the hotel was amazing with various features and sculptures on display.The location of the hotel is only a few meters to the beach. It's a short walk to the main town. Restaurant's within walking distance of hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel to family and friends,as it ticked all boxes for my requirements to have a very memorable holiday. Top marks to all here for an excellent holiday. Thank you. I look forward to returning in the near future.
