I booked Castlemartyr for a weekend away to propose to my then girlfriend (now wife) and I just wanted to leave a review to call out how well we were treated at the hotel. Our room was upgraded and the staff went out of their way to make the most special weekend for both of us, something we won’t forgot. 5 stars on every metric, thank you to the staff.

we went for afternoon tea and it was an absolute pleasure! the grounds are stunning and so natural, the decor is beautiful, the fires were a lovely touch too. the food was very nice with a great selection, any allergies were accommodated without a second thought, and the service is just fantastic. it was a really warm and relaxed atmosphere and a good price. we went on Valentine's day and there was a little box of chocolates for each of us for the day which was a nice addition

Stayed in hotel last weekend with friends. From our check in to leaving it was a fabulous experience. The bedroom was beautifully presented and cosy. Food was delicious with a great choice. And to the spa the signature treatment was heavenly and afterwards to the quiet room was so peaceful and warm. I would highly recommend Castlemartyr Hotel for a getaway anytime

My husband and I travel frequently and have stayed in more hotels than we could count but not too many 5 star.
Therefore we did not expect to be greeted by a doorman shouting at us to move from the main entrance on a wet & windy Saturday evening before Christmas as we attempted to unload our luggage.
In the bar I didn't expect a bowl of milk with bits of fish swimming around to be called "Seafood" chowder. My husband ate a chicken pate which left a lot to be desired. Luckily the courteous young Dutch man stood out from other staff who seemed totally indifferent.
We were charmed by an exceptional young lady from Ballymacoda at reception.
Again we were totally delighted with our room, which was spacious, comfortable and beautifully decorated along with a bathroom to die for.
We didn't expect canteen furniture in the breakfast room
nor a plastic jungle hanging from the ceiling right over the buffet counter with all kinds of everything hanging and falling down.
Unfortunately due to the weather and winter time we were unable to enjoy the wonderful surroundings.
We did expect higher standards in a 5 star establishment.
As we sat by the empty piano in the bar we said where is the Christmas spirit - it was dull almost dreary and what a lost opportunity! - someone playing would have done wonders to rescue the festive season.

Once your car hits the pavement of the road to the hotel, you are blown away by the scenic view of the water fountain, the former castle and the fast green ahead are you even on a rainy day!
From the moment we sat foot into the property the hotel staff went to above and beyond to ensure the stay was memorable. The warm and fresh scent of rose and blackberry from the candles being burnt across the property added to the experience.
We had dinner in the hunted hog, which is offsite owned by the property. The driver took us to the venue and Home when required. The food was truly delicious, portions very generous. Picture is the prawn taco which I highly recommend.
Breakfast at the property was a wonderful peaceful experience. The f&b ensuring a warm morning greeting to every customer. The breakfast buffet and the hot food truly caters to everyone.
I truly loved the artwork dotted around the property from Gormley’s. I’m a very big fan of Patrick O’Reilly and Patrick Rubinstein with some of my favourite artwork normally housed in Dublin being on site.
Looking forward to my return visit in a few weeks.
