As expected, Brooks Koepka has opted out of the LIV Golf League for the 2026 season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major champion will stay connected to the competing circuit but needs more family time. This was reportedly agreed upon amicably, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil. Koepka is a competitive player who thrives on high-level competition, something he found limited in LIV. Having joined LIV in 2022 when injuries threatened his career, Koepka aimed to secure a solid retirement fund. His skipping the final contractual season is thus not surprising, though questions remain about financial terms and his ownership status in the LIV team Smash GC, now captained by Talor Gooch.
Speculation is rife about where Koepka will compete next: the DP World Tour, where he may play immediately possibly facing a penalty, or the PGA Tour, where he would serve a one-year suspension after his last LIV appearance. However, lifetime bans imposed by former Commissioner Jay Monahan have been significantly relaxed. Following information from ESPN journalist Mark Schlabach, Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his PGA Tour membership not extended after 2022.
